This report presents information on crime reported to, or detected by, NSW Police across NSW. Data are shown at the NSW level and further disaggregated by region and Local Government Area. The report covers 13 major offence categories, including the most serious violent and property offences, along with detailed data for 62 specific offence types.

At a glance: NSW recorded crime trends (June 2026)
Long-term trends in NSW
Over the ten years to June 2026, property crime fell substantially across NSW. During the same period, recorded violent crime increased. Some of this increase may reflect improved reporting to police, rather than a rise in the actual level of violence occurring in the community.
NSW statewide trends
Over the two years to June 2026, crime trends across NSW remained largely stable. The only major offence to increase was steal from retail store, which increased by 10.4%. All other major offence categories showed no significant change.
Regional NSW
Crime rates in Regional NSW were also generally stable over the two years to June 2026. Of the 13 major offence categories, only steal from retail store increased, rising by 11.9%. All other major offences remained unchanged.
Greater Sydney
In Greater Sydney, most major offences were either stable or declining over the two years to June 2026. Steal from retail store was the only major offence to increase, rising by 9.5%. Over the same period, robbery fell by 11.9%, break and enter dwelling decreased by 5.8%, and steal from motor vehicle declined by 4.2%. All other major offences remained stable.
