Justice Peter Garling RFD

The Honourable Justice Peter Garling RFD was first admitted as a barrister in NSW in February 1979. He was appointed a Senior Counsel in 1994. His appearances as a barrister ranged across a variety of common law and commercial litigation cases throughout Australia. He specialised in the areas of professional negligence and product liability law, public authority liability, insurance law and administrative law. He appeared extensively in Royal Commissions and Public Inquiries. From November 1989 to November 1991, he held an appointment as an Acting Judge of the District Court of NSW. In January 2008, he was appointed by the Government of New South Wales to conduct the Special Commission of Inquiry into Acute Care Services in NSW Public Hospitals. In June 2010, His Honour was sworn in as a judge of the Supreme Court of New South Wales. He sits in the Common Law Division. His Honour was responsible for the judicial management of all claims for damages arising from historical sexual assault. He manages all class actions filed in the Common Law Division.
