Northern Territory Correctional Services needed additional accommodation in Alice Springs and quick. CSI had the experience to deliver.
CSI built a ninety-six-bed modular accommodation facility for the Northern Territory Government. Construction of the modular cells took place at St Heliers Correctional Centre in NSW’s Upper Hunter and was then transported to Alice Springs Correctional Centre.
The new facility includes forty-eight cells, communal spaces, an officer’s post, and storage rooms. The considered cell design is to ensure safety for both inmate and Corrections staff. Each cell contains two beds, a desk and chair, shower, toilet, sink and shelving. The officers post caters to staff requirements including a kitchen, breakout room and office space.
The modular facility provides all the security components that are expected of a regular correctional centre, but with the added feature of being transportable.
This partnership provides ongoing education and sustainable employment opportunities for people in custody in NSW, while rapidly delivering quality accommodation facilities for our counterparts in Alice Springs.
The skills and qualifications inmates gain when undertaking projects such as this one increases their opportunity to gain meaningful employment when they exit custody.
