Our CSI Facilities Maintenance team at Cessnock Correctional Complex play a key role in maintaining the buildings and equipment across the entire Complex.
CSI Facilities Maintenance employ trade qualified personnel (Overseers) who are responsible for the management, supervision, and training of people in custody whilst they are at work. This involves coaching, instructing, and encouraging inmates as members of a team to develop their work skills to contribute to the productivity outcomes.
A key ingredient for the teams’ achievements are the 35 people in custody who work with our Trade Overseers. Our units inspire people in custody to feel proud of the work they do, supported by education to achieve qualifications in Cleaning Operations, Construction Pathways, Engineering, Plumbing, Electrical, Supply Chain Operations, Waste Management and a range of other current industry skill sets with TAFE NSW and other training facilities.
CSI Trade Overseers are always proud when a person in custody takes on the challenge to better themselves and one such individual is Courtney.
Courtney commenced his electrical apprenticeship whilst in custody and then completed with a local company upon release. Courtney is now skilled tradesman and is a leading Trainer, responsible for signing off the Electrical Apprentices modules throughout their four-year term.
Courtney has successfully managed his release to the community with integrity and hard work. Now married with a young family, Courtney encourages other inmates to see the opportunities to turn a negative experience into a positive outcome whilst incarcerated. This is a second chance to turn their life around and become a valued member of society.
Trade Overseers are critical in providing technical expertise, a safe work environment, and positive role modelling demonstrating ethical business practices, honesty, and integrity, and Courtney has benefited from the dedication of the Cessnock Correctional Complex Facilities Maintenance team.
